Al Horwits

Horwits went from high school in 1920 to the baseball beat for the Philadelphia Public Ledger. His biggest scoop came in 1933, when he broke the story of the A 's stars being sold three weeks before the official announcement. The Public Ledger folded in 1942, and Horwits worked for the Athletics for a few years. In 1945 he was president of the BBWAA. Later he worked in Hollywood as a publicist for Universal Pictures. (NLM)
